SEYMOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Seymour Fire Department, under the leadership of Chief Fred Hines, has a total of 39 sworn firefighters, working out of three stations.
Seymour firefighters are not only trained to fight fires, but also trained as First Responders. The engines are outfitted with medical supplies and automatic heart defibrillator equipment for quick response to medical emergencies. Many times, the department has the opportunity to be first on the scene when persons call 911 with a medical problem. This quick response has led to saving several lives in the community, as the Seymour Fire Department frequently arrives at the scene before the ambulance does, since the Jackson County Ambulance must cover the whole county, not just the City of Seymour.
The Fire Department continues to work with children through the BAT program. Chief Hines and department firefighters went to schools, day cares, and special events at area businesses and continues to conduct tours of the stations, teaching children and adults the importance of fire safety.
