The Park and Recreation department maintains the parks in the city: Kessler, Gaiser, Shields, Freeman Field, the West Side Park, and the Kasting Youth Complex. They organize leagues for the various sports, and schedule reserved areas for picnics and reunions. The Park and Recreation Department administers the Area 11 Agency on Aging program and the Senior Citizen Bus used by that program. Persons wishing to rent the Senior Citizens Center or reserve One Chamber Square for an activity should contact the Park and Recreation Department.

The Department of Planning and Zoning issues building permits making sure they are in compliance with local zoning regulations. This department should be contacted with questions regarding whether or not persons are obeying local rules regarding outside storage, disposal of discarded items, fence regulations, signs, parking, and animal restrictions within the city.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) maintains Seymour's streets and alleys and is responsible for trash pickup. The DPW also oversees city-wide recycling and beautification efforts and partners with other city departments on special events.

The Seymour Fire Department has three stations; Station 1 (Headquarters), located at 318 East Street, Station 2, located at 500 W. 5th Street and Station 3, located at 605 Meadowbrook Dr.. The city employs 39 firefighters with 13 firefighters scheduled to be on duty each shift.

The Seymour Transit Department runs the public transit system in Seymour. Seymour Transit, also called Recycle to Ride, operates 5 days a week, Monday thru Friday 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Call 522-7433 (522-RIDE) to schedule a pickup at your home.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Wastewater Treatment Plant is owned and managed by the City of Seymour. The Waste Water Treatment department is charged with the responsibility of the daily operation and maintenance of the City of Seymour's 8.7 million gallons/ day plant, the 125 miles of sanitary sewer, 25 miles of storm sewer collection systems, and 36 sanitary lift stations. The WWTP must meet or exceed all Federal, State and Local specifications for effluent quality control, and provide all required reports and obtain all permits for operation of the facilities. The WWTP also monitors 11 Industrial Users in the city to ensure compliance with city regulations. Funding for this utility comes from fees assessed each user.

The Mayor of the City of Seymour appoints a board of directors to oversee The Seymour Housing Authority, which is available to provide rental assistance to qualifying families through the Federal guidelines of HUD. Interested parties may call for more information or to apply for the program.
