Seymour Museum
Restoration work is fully underway on the interior of the Old Federal Building, 220 North Chestnut Street, in historic downtown Seymour. The historic building once housed the Seymour Post Office, Seymour City Hall, Seymour Police Department and will be the home of Seymour Museum. Many features of the original Seymour Post Office are being brought back for future generations to appreciate and for our mature citizens to remember. In celebration of our rich and diversified heritage, exhibits relating to daily life in our community throughout the years will be features along with rotating and traveling displays.
The lower floor is being dedicated to the city’s railroad history. The local Train Club will have several working train layouts on display. The Southern Indiana Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (established in 1935) will manage Seymour prototype train display, railroad history and offer classes and programs. Railroads were vital to our community early on, without them our city would not be here today.
The Museum Board is currently seeking donations of old post office boxes and other historic memorabilia to be used in the restored interior. Information regarding items specific to the original Seymour Post Office or possible items for donation need to be directed to Kevin Greene, Board Member, at 812-524-7701. Contributions of support for the Seymour Museum will be gratefully accepted at Seymour Museum PO Box 1222 Seymour, Indiana 47274.
